Chichicastenango market in Guatemala is the largest market in Central America with K’iche’ Mayan culture. During market days is city full of vendors and full of life. Local people mix here with tourist who come to see and shop traditional handicrafts. Why made this market special for me was amount of people dressed up in traditional dresses.
Santo Tomas Chichicastenango is a town in the highlands of Guatemala. It has a Maya K’iche’ community of 50,000 people. An additional 100,000 people live in 81 rural villages connected to Chichicastenango. People from the villages frequently come to the town on market days which are both a reflection of Maya traditions and contemporary life.
On the market vendors sell handicrafts, huipiles, food, flowers, pottery, wood carvings, traditional masks and many other things.
